Community Foundation Welcomes New Board Members; Appoints New Executive Committee
The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation elected Ryan Boman, Philip D. Rolle, Arend J. Sandbulte and Mia Thibodeau to its Board of Trustees. The Board also nominated Two Harbors resident Lyle Northey as Chair; Hanft Fride attorney Jennifer L. Carey as Vice-Chair; Howard T. Klatzky of marketing and communications firm H.T. Klatzky and Associates as Secretary; and President of Kolquist, Seitz and Goldman LeRoy T. Kolquist as Treasurer.
Mr. Boman is President of PLB Properties. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and MBA at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He is currently Vice Chair of the Greater Downtown Council and an Advisory Board Member of the Young Leaders Fund at the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. His father, Peter Boman, was a former trustee and friend of the Community Foundation.
“I’m very excited and humbled to pick up where my father left off in becoming a member of the Board of Trustees,” says Mr. Boman. “The Community Foundation is such a well respected organization for all the philanthropic work that it does making it an easy decision to accept the invitation to join the Board. As a young leader in this community, I see it as a personal challenge not to let the efforts of the previous generations be lost on mine and continue to be a steward for this great area that I’ve always called home.”
Mr. Philip Rolle retired from Wells Fargo Corporation in 2009 after 32 years of service. Most recently, Mr. Rolle led the integration efforts of Wells Fargo’s Diversified Products Group and its merger with Wachovia Bank Corporation. Mr. Rolle earned both his undergraduate degree in Finance and MBA from the University of Minnesota Duluth. He currently serves on the Board of LHB Inc., on the Advisory Board for UMD’s Labovitz School of Business & Economics and on the Chancellor’s Advisory Council. He is past Board Chair of the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, Northland Foundation, The Lake Superior Museum of Transportation, and the College of St. Scholastica, where he was named Trustee Emeritus.
“The DSACF has a well deserved reputation for community support and I'm honored to be considered for this fine organization,” Mr. Rolle says of joining the Board of Trustees.
Mr. Arend Sandbulte retired as Chairman, President and CEO of Minnesota Power, after being employed at the company for more than 31 years. Mr. Sandbulte received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Minnesota. He has served on numerous Board’s in the region including the St. Luke’s Foundation, Duluth United Way, Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce, and the College of St. Scholastica, to name a few. He also chaired the City of Duluth Task Force in 2005 whose mission was to make findings on funding post retirement health care benefits.
“The DSACF has been a key player in our community for 25 years, supporting with funds many efforts that make Duluth and its environs a better, more livable place for its citizens,” says Mr. Sandbulte. “I'm happy to now become part of that effort for the years ahead, in joining the board and working with them to make good things happen.”
Ms. Mia Thibodeau is an attorney focusing on Estate Planning, Elder and Family Law at Fryberger, Buchanan, Smith & Frederick P.A. Ms. Thibodeau received her undergraduate degree from St. John’s University and her J.D. from Willamette University College of Law. She is an active member of the YMCA Community Services Committee, United Way of Greater Duluth’s Annual Campaign Committee, Kids Voting, the Duluth Playhouse and FUSE. She also serves as an Advisory Committee Member of the Young Leaders Fund at the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.
Ms. Thibodeau says of joining the Board, “I am honored to have this opportunity to serve my community as a Board member. I think the diversity of organizations and projects the Foundation touches is wonderful. I look forward to helping those organizations and projects through my work on the Board.”
